Coding Your Website
There's lots of mystique about the 'black art' of coding your website for search engines such as Google - and yes we do have some clever tricks that we're keeping to ourselves. But here are the basics:
- Page Name - This is the name you can see in blue at the very top of Internet Explorer that says "search engine optimisation, seo, search marketing". In other words - it should say what the page is about.
- Meta-Tags – Keywords and Description: These are the “hidden code” that Google and the other search engines read. Again, we'll help you make sure they're relevant to the content of the page you're reading.
- Image Alt Tags - When an image is placed on a page, it should also have a text description – “the alt-tag”. Use the text on these tags to sell your proucts.
Search Engine Copywriting
The text or copy on your website must sell your products to your customers. But our copywriters will also make sure that your text is also effectively read by the search engines.
We'll work with you to identify your keywords - and will make sure they appear in your heading (your 'H1' tags), your sub-headings ('H2' and 'H3' tags) and in a high density throughout the page. Getting Linked
Search engines like links. They like links within your website as this enables them to find and rank all your pages. By the way, make sure the links should have relevant names - on this page that means search engine optimisation.
But most of all, search engines (particularly Google) like links out from your site to other websites and, even more, links into your website. If you can get a link into your website from a top quality site such as the BBC - then your search ranking will improve overnight!
